Owner/ Instructor Jon Turner has been tying knots, building fires and exploring the forest since he was five years old. After high school, he enlisted in the Marines and served three combat deployments during the GWOT.

In 2014, he and his family started Wild Roots Community Farm in Vermont, offering classes and workshops to K-college, veterans, first responders and community members interested in sustainable food systems.

Jon has worked as a survival instructor for Guardian Revival/ Another Summit, World Extreme Medicine, Raven Wilderness School and Vermont Adaptive Veteran Ventures. He has been featured on the Medevac Podcast, Alone and Unafraid, Nature Reliance Podcast and Choosing to Farm.

Our resident food wizard Zachary Golper is Chef/ Co-founder of Bien Cuit and co-author of “Bien Cuit- The Art of Bread”. He has a hyper focus on fermentation and high gastronomy. Zachary has been highly recognized for his work internationally and continues to provide a deep level of understanding for survival food at our classes and how available resources to create a nutrient dense meal, are readily available.
